4 Months, 3 Weeks And 2 Days (Romania)

4 Months, 3 Weeks And 2 Days

Writer/Director:
Cristian Mungiu
Producers:
Cristian Mungiu, Oleg Mutu

The controversial story of this emotionally and cinematically gripping film is the 24-
hour journey of two women as they negotiate for an illegal abortion in Romania
during the final days of the communist Ceaucescu regime. Featuring powerful
performances by Anamaria Marinca and Laura Vasiliu in the lead roles and
impeccably shot by Oleg Mutu (THE DEATH OF MR. LAZARESCU), the film is directed
by Cristian Mungiu.

The Band's Visit (Israel)

The Band's Visit

Writer/Director:
Eran Kolirin
Producers:
Guy Jacoel, Koby Gal-Raday, Yossi Urzad, Ehud Bleiberg, Eilon Ratzkovsky

When an Egyptian Police band travels to Israel to play at an Arab cultural center, no
one turns up at the airport to greet them. They set off on their own, but end up
stranded in a desolate Israeli town in the heart of the desert. With no transportation
available until the next morning they are forced to find lodging with a local cafe
owner and some neighboring families.

Lady Chatterley (France)

Lady Chatterley

Director:
Pascale Ferran
Producer:
Gilles Sandoz
Writers:
Roger Bohbot & Pascale Ferran

Winner of 5 Cesar Awards (the French 'Oscar') including Best Picture and Best
Actress, LADY CHATTERLEY is a keenly perceptive, frankly sensual adaptation of
D.H. Lawrence's classic novel about the turbulent love affair between a lonely British
aristocrat's wife and their estate's gamekeeper. Director Pascale Ferran captures the
author's vision both of a society in transition, and the tremulous eroticism between
two people drawn together despite its inequalities.

Once (Ireland)

Once

Writer/Director:
John Carney
Producer:
Martina Niland

ONCE is the inspirational tale of two kindred spirits who find each other on the
bustling streets of Dublin. One is a street musician who lacks the confidence to
perform his own songs. The other is a young mother trying to find her way in a
strange new town. As their lives intertwine, they discover each other's talents and
push one another to realize what each had only dreamt about before. ONCE is their
inspiring story.

Persepolis (France)

Persepolis

Writer/Directors:
Vincent Paronnaud & Marjane Satrapi
Producers:
Marc-Antoine Robert, Xavier Rigault

Persepolis is the poignant story of a young girl coming-of-age in Iran during the
Islamic Revolution. It is through the eyes of precocious and outspoken Marjane that
we see a people's hopes dashed as fundamentalists take power. Clever and fearless,
Marjane rebels against the oppressive forces, but her boldness worries her parents
who make the decision to send her to school in Austria. After school, Marjane returns
to Iran to be close to her family. While speaking out against the hypocrisy she
witnesses, she comes to the heartbreaking conclusion that while she is deeply
Iranian, she cannot live in Iran.
